In November 2014 Nadira was referred to our Brighter Futures unit. The mother and her young family had migrated to Australia from Pakistan in 2008. The family had no acquaintances or family in Australia and the father was working long hours and wouldn’t arrive home before 6 in the evening.

Nadira was raising 3 children under the age of 5 without a support system. Her eldest son was living with autism, developmental delays, and hearing issues. Her middle child; a son had behavioural issues and some speech delays. Her youngest; a daughter was living with a hearing impairment.
Since her referral we have monitored and supported Nadira and her family through assessments, intensive casework, and numerous home visits to check in on her and her family’s progress. We involved other services to make sure that the family was provided with as much opportunity to thrive as possible. These services included Sydney in Home Care, Bankstown Community Health, early childhood centres, Koorana, The Royal Institute for the Deaf and Blind, childcare centres, and Westmead hospital.

We were able to connect the family with an Aspect school to help with her eldest son's development. We also connected the family to speech therapy and occupational therapy services. Each of these services contributed in reducing aggression and anxiety within the family and created a support network that in turn reduced the Nadira’s isolation. Each of these services were an integral part of the family's development and have supported Nadira in providing the best care for her children.
The progress we have made and continue to make with Nadira and her family is based on transparency, honesty,and accountability, in addition to a strong network of other service providers who were integral in providing the family with necessary help.
Our program aims to make the settlement journey for all citizens, especially for CALD communities, as smooth as possible from the beginning of the referral process to a long time after they have finished with our service. We aim for a better and brighter future for all members of the community by making sure that our families are confident in their rights and responsibilites as individuals.
