Refugee Week 2023

Join us in celebrating Refugee Week, 18th-24th June 2023.

Every year, this week raises awareness of the many issues refugees face and shines a light on their stories and valuable contributions refugees make in our community.

The theme this year, “Finding Freedom” highlights the dangerous journeys undertaken by millions of people across the world to find safety and freedom. It calls us to reflect on what freedom means to refugees and how settling in a new community can also provide the opportunity ‘to live, to love and to dream’.

“In marking the week, we join refugees across Australia and the Globe to celebrate their enormous strengths and resilience they endured in their journey to ‘safety, freedom and empowerment”and the valuable contributions they make to Australian society says Nina Shahi, CEO at Metro Assist.

“This week we celebrate the Refugee Week together with many organisations and individuals who support those who have come to Australia, seeking safety, freedom, and the chance to rebuild their lives” says April Pan, Settlement Services Manager at Metro Assist.

Metro Assist will kick off celebrations with a Soccer Gala Day on Sunday, a special cultural gathering of women “Feminine Vibes” on Wednesday, and a fun, entertaining and inspiring Celebration Dinner on Friday evening.

Join us this week to show your solidarity!

Metro Assist is also joining our Corporate Partner LinkedIn in 2023 World Refugee Day Campaign aiming to create conversations around the benefits and value that refugees bring to the workplace and connect employers with skilled refugee candidates.

Metro Assist will be at the World Refugee Day Fair hosted by Settlement Services International on the lawn of Parliament House, Canberra. The event will showcase businesses and organisations who have a shared aspiration for all refugees to reach their full potential in Australia. Please visit us at the stall.
