September News

September was an eventful month for Metro Assist. As the weather starts to warm up the team could be found at many community events in the area including the Ukranian Family Festival, and the Canterbury-Bankstown Children’s festival.

The women’s circle wrapped up for the year with the last session held at the Bankstown office and an information session around the referendum had a large number of Chinese attending.

We have to thank the Commonwealth Bank Campsie for their generous donation and the Campsie Office saw the launch of the Metro Assist new Mental Health & Wellbeing Plan on RUOK? Day. RUOK?

Women's Circle

Metro Assist's, Women’s Circle, enjoyed the last session of a job readiness program delivered this term, with a morning tea at our Bankstown office.

The ladies engaged in friendly conversations about gender roles and expectations in our society, and the challenges faced by women from a CALD background in finding employment.  Free, professional attire was also offered to empower the women and build confidence to attend job interviews.

Commbank Donation

A huge thank you to Commbank Campsie for their donation to Metro Assist this morning.

We are truly grateful to be recognised for providing community support services aimed at making a positive impact on the lives of those within the local area. This financial assistance will enable us to continue to make a significant difference and grow a brighter future for those who require support the most.

RUOK Day - 14 September

Metro Assist acknowledged that we are not always equipped with the correct response if one of our work colleagues tells us they are not OK.

On R U OK?Day, our Mental Health and Wellness Committee took the opportunity to launch Metro Assist's Mental Health and Wellbeing Plan, during an afternoon tea for staff at the Campsie office. While the Mental Health & Wellbeing Plan covers many aspects of wellbeing, it also provides our team with resources and practical actions they can take in the workplace, should anyone need it.  RUOK?

Ukrainian Family Festival

Our Settlement Team took part in the Ukrainian Family Festival organised by the Ukrainian Council of NSW - ОУГ НПВ Sunday 17th of September 2023. Metro Assist has a strong commitment to assisting the Ukrainian community and other emerging communities to settle sustainably in Australia.

In blue and yellow,  the Settlement Team celebrated Ukrainian Family Day and organised fun activities for children and young people, including face painting, an art workshop with a Ukraine Theme, bubble and foam fun, Zumba, and a sand sculpture competition for children and parents.

Children were able to take home toys, games, and books. The smile on the children’s faces was priceless!

Canterbury-Bankstown Children’s Festival

Metro Assist attended the 25th anniversary of the Canterbury-Bankstown Children’s Festival in Yagoona, where local children and children from all over Sydney, came together, to showcase their cultural traditions with colourful performances, traditional music, art exhibitions and cuisine.

Over the last 25 years the festival has provided a platform for people to come together, strengthen bonds and promote harmony within the community. Well done to Children's Festival Organisation Inc. and to everyone involved.

Education Session with Relationships Australia

Metro Assist partnered with Relationships Australia NSW to facilitate a community education session around the Voice referendum, by bringing together clients, inviting a speaker, and assisting with catering.

"Bridging Voices: A Community Journey Through Culture and History" was attended by 71 participants and served as a meaningful platform for dialogue and cultural exchange for the community.
